Mountain Guide beings: hiking guide - temporary services (excursion traffic)

General information

Hiking guides from other provinces or foreign states may temporarily work in Vorarlberg for occasional excursions without having to obtain a certificate from the Mountain Guides’Association (Bergführerverband), provided that they are legally established as hiking guides in their Austrian province or foreign state of origin. The regulations governing
excursion traffic must be observed.

If the mountain hike is in the Vorarlberg border area, the excursion provisions do not have to be applied, provided that the mountain hike begins and ends outside Vorarlberg.

Deadlines

The Mountain Guides’ Association must be notified in advance of the start of the first activity as a hiking guide.

Costs and fees

As a rule, no fee is payable.

Requirements

The Mountain Guides’ Association must be notified in advance of the start of the first activity as a hiking guide. The notification must be renewed every 2 years.
The notification must be accompanied by proof of legal establishment

Hiking guides from other provinces or foreign states may temporarily work in Vorarlberg for occasional excursions without having to obtain a certificate from the Mountain Guides’ Association, provided that
they are legally established as hiking guides in their Austrian province or foreign state of origin. The regulations governing excursion traffic must be adhered to. These are complied with if the hiking guide
notifies the Mountain Guides’ Association before taking up their activity as a hiking guide in Vorarlberg for the first time. The notification must be accompanied by proof of their legal establishment as a hiking guide in their country of origin.

Authentication and signature

An electronic or handwritten signature is not required for applications.

Means of redress or appeal

Appeals against decisions of the Provincial Government may be lodged with the Regional Administrative Court  (Landesverwaltungsgericht). The appeal must specify the contested
decision and the authority that issued it. It must contain a request and set out the grounds on which the allegation of illegality is based.

The appeal must be filed in writing to the relevant competent provincial government within 4 weeks of the date of notification of the
decision and must contain information that makes it possible to assess its timeliness. The appeal may be filed electronically: Appeals in administrative proceedings.
