The owner of a landfill must notify the competent authority of the establishment of a landfill or a section of a landfill.

He/she must not dispose waste in the landfill before an inspection with a positive result has been carried out. The owner of the landfill must comply with the respective state-of-the-art.

No tariffs or duties have to be paid.

The waste management authority which is locally in charge of the site:

• The Provincial Governor^{German text} (Landeshauptmann)
• The Provincial Governor may delegate procedures and supervision to the district administrative authority (Bezirksverwaltungsbehörde)
